Effective date: October 15, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Plantling (“Plantling,” “we,” “us”) handles information when you use the Plantling iOS app and this website. Plantling is operated by the app developer. This policy describes the app’s current features and may change as they do.
Information we handle
- Plant and care information: plant names, species, notes, care logs, reminders, and related settings you add.
- Photos and scan records: photos you submit for plant identification or diagnosis, analysis results, and records needed to show your scan history. Photos are stored in Plantling’s private cloud storage under your anonymous app account.
- Chat content: messages and optional photos you choose to send in Lily Chat, conversation history and summaries, and any AI replies and reasons you submit for review.
- Account and notification information: an app-generated anonymous account identifier, AI permission choices, and, if you enable push notifications, a device push token, app version, reminder schedule and time zone. Although you do not create a named profile, your account identifier links your supported records together.
- Region and device context: language, time zone and, if you permit location access, a city or region, country and hemisphere used to tailor seasonal plant care. iOS location and geocoding services derive this context; precise latitude and longitude are not sent to Supabase or OpenAI by this feature.
- Subscription and purchase information: RevenueCat associates its customer identifier and your anonymous Plantling account identifier with App Store product and transaction identifiers, purchase history, subscription status, renewal or expiry information, and technical app, device and operating-system information needed to manage purchases. Apple handles payment; Plantling does not receive your payment card number.
- Feature usage: your account identifier, feature used, request identifier and time are recorded to enforce free allowances and check access to Pro features. These usage records do not contain the text or photos from your request.
- On-device information: app preferences, a saved-plant copy, cached images, chat drafts and pending operations may be stored locally on your device.
Please avoid including personal or sensitive information in plant names, notes, photos, or messages. Photos may incidentally contain people or other details in the background.
How it is used
We use this information to provide the features you request: saving your plants and care history, syncing supported records, displaying scan history, responding to plant questions, producing identification or diagnosis results, and delivering reminders you enable. We also use it to maintain, protect, and troubleshoot the app.
Plant photos, relevant prompts and care context are processed for AI-assisted plant identification, diagnosis, chat and content safety checks. For a chat response, this can include relevant conversation history or summaries and selected plant information. AI results can be incomplete or inaccurate; see our Terms.
Subscription information is used to display available plans, validate purchases, restore supported purchases, and determine whether Plantling Pro is active. Feature-usage records enforce the free allowances; deleting individual scans or conversations does not reset them.
The app does not currently ask you to create a profile with a name or password. If you email support, we receive the email address and message details you choose to send.
Website visits
This is a static informational website hosted on GitHub Pages. It does not offer an account, newsletter, or contact form. The hosting provider may receive standard connection information (such as your IP address, browser, requested page, and request time) to serve and protect the site, under its hosting and retention practices. The pages use system fonts and do not load third-party font services.
Service providers
- Supabase: anonymous authentication, database, private photo storage and server functions. It stores supported account, plant, scan, chat, reminder, permission and usage records.
- OpenAI: relevant photos, messages, conversation context, plant and care information, language, time zone and region for AI responses and content safety checks, after your explicit permission.
- RevenueCat: customer and app-account identifiers, purchase and subscription information, and necessary technical information for subscription validation, restoration and access to Plantling Pro. Plantling does not send your plant photos, notes or chat content to RevenueCat.
- Apple: App Store purchases and subscription billing, enabled push-notification delivery, and iOS location or geocoding services you permit.
- GitHub Pages: hosting and delivery of this informational website.
These providers receive information needed to support their services. We remain responsible for ensuring they protect information consistently with this policy. We do not sell your personal information. You can read the providers’ privacy information at Supabase, OpenAI, RevenueCat, Apple and GitHub.
Information may also be disclosed when required by law, to respond to valid legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of users or the service.
Storage & security
Cloud records and submitted photos are associated with your anonymous app account and protected by access controls intended to limit access to that account. Data travels through network services to provide cloud features. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, so we cannot promise absolute security.
Information may be processed in locations where Plantling or its service providers operate. When you use AI features, the content needed to answer your request is transmitted to the AI provider. Do not send anything through Plantling that you are not comfortable having processed to provide that feature.
Retention & deletion
We keep cloud records and photos while needed to provide the app and its history, unless you delete them sooner or we need to retain them for a legitimate operational or legal reason. Use Settings → Delete account and data to delete your anonymous Plantling account, cloud records, associated stored photos, AI consent, usage and access-restriction records, and supported local app data. We also request deletion of your RevenueCat customer data; RevenueCat processes erasure asynchronously. The original login session is cleared. You can choose Start fresh to create a new anonymous account afterward. A completed deletion leaves only an anonymous confirmation receipt containing a hash and timestamps, without your account ID or content. Apple subscriptions are not canceled by account deletion; manage or cancel them in your Apple account. Apple transaction records and service-provider logs or backups may remain under applicable legal and provider retention rules.
For help with a deletion request, contact catcha.asap@gmail.com.
Your choices
Before using AI features, Plantling asks for explicit permission to send relevant messages, photos, conversation history or summaries, selected plant details and care history, language, time zone, and region to OpenAI for responses and content safety checks. Manage or withdraw permission in Settings → Privacy → AI assistance. Withdrawal stops future AI requests and does not delete prior records. OpenAI API data is not used for training by default; provider safety logs may generally be retained for up to 30 days, with exceptions and other provider-specific retention. AI permission choices are stored under your anonymous app account.
You can report an AI reply from the chat. The reply and selected reason are available to Plantling support for review. Reports are removed with the conversation or account deletion. We may pause AI access for abuse. We remain responsible for ensuring service providers protect information consistently with this policy.
You choose whether to provide photos or chat messages, and can manage notification permission through iOS Settings. You can delete individual plant records or use the app’s account deletion action. Some app features need cloud processing to work.
You may also stop using the app and remove it from your device. Removing the app clears its on-device files according to iOS behavior, but does not by itself send a request to delete data already stored in the cloud. Use Settings → Delete account and data before uninstalling if you want Plantling to delete your account, cloud records and photos.
Children’s privacy
Plantling is not designed to collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, please contact us so we can review the request.
Policy updates
We may update this policy when the app or its data practices change. We will update the effective date above and provide additional notice in the app or on this page when appropriate.
